The impact of 5G and 6G telecommunication technology for medicine

MEDICA Fair 2023 is an excelent forum to discover new developments and network with other industry specialists, but also to learn where healthcare innovation is heading. Here we share a brief excerpt of what we can expect in terms of health technology and smart hospitals in the future, which reinforces the need to establish collaborations with partners with extensive experience in smart solutions and HIS integration processes.

As Dr. Max Rockstroh and Christoph Lipps said on their presentations, the development of the Sixth Generation (6G) Wireless Systems has been launched and is scheduled to be operational by 2030. It will be the infrastructure of a new generation of mobile, intelligent, and context-sensitive services, available everywhere and featuring high trustworthiness and performance, relying on both, networks-side and of-network context sources. Besides, the networks themselves ought to become intelligent and thus more efficient and resource-saving, requiring a high degree of automated utilization of Artificial Intelligence.

The 6G health will be key in the development of Smart Hospitals, remote monitoring and colaborative work. In this regard, Smart hospitals will include asset tracking, local value-added services, one-site diagnostics through sensor technology and evaluation in the cloud and context-sensitive workflow control through tracking and mobile data provisioning.

The 6G will not be solution for everithing, but will be the enabeler, assistance and support to develop the rest of solutions. The future of healthcare includes telecommunication between all devices, therefore choosing a partner ready to take on the challenge is vital.
